Memory cards for mobile phone use
Along with the increased functionality of mobile phones such as camera capability, MP3 listening, video recording, etc., the storage capacity has become critical to a mobile phone. Not only are built-in memories greater in capacity but the addition of an expansion memory card slot is a must as well! The modern day mobile phone memory card must meet basic mobile phone characteristics such as small, thin, low power consumption and long operating time. While current memory cards can meet all of the above and in addition, offer application use (JAVA games, Dictionary functionalities, etc.) which means its read / write speeds become important factors as well!
Current mobile phone memory card can be divided into the following three categories:
SD series: including SD, miniSD, microSD (T-Flash)
MMC series: including MMC / MMCPlus, RS-MMC (MMCmobile), MMCmicro
MS series: including MS PRO DUO, M2

SD Series Memory Card
SD (Secure Digital) is the most commonly used memory card by digital cameras. Due to its large size, it is also commonly used on PDAs or Smart-Phones. Most mobile phones will use miniSD or microSD (T-Flash: TransFlash) memory cards.
From illustration, you can clearly differentiate different SD memory card types. The microSD, featuring 15 x 11 mm dimensions, it is currently the smallest flash memory card and is being implemented into Motorola and Samsung mobile phones. As miniSD cards were released earlier, compatible expansion slot implementation can be seen on various mobile phones on the market.

MMC Series Memory Card
Though MMC (MultiMedia Card) can not provide encryption and write-protection functionalities like SD memory cards, they are however thinner. The MMC 4.x specifications also improved their transfer speeds, namely MMCPlus and MMCmobile (faster versions of MMC / RS-MMC respectively).
No driver installation required, light in weight (2 grams), ultra thin and increased capacities in a postage stamp size package allows manufacturers to develop ultra portable digital handheld devices!
MMC dimensions - 32mm x 24mm x 1.4 mm (L x W x H)

Camera Dedicated Memory Card
SD Series Memory Card
SD card size is similar to that of a postage stamp, weighs only 2 grams, convenient to store, high compatibility with various consumer devices. Based on MMC, SD card is developed from a joint venture between SanDisk, Matsushita Electronic and Toshiba. Because it was developed based on MMC, most SD card compatible devices are also compatible with MMC as well. The SD card has reign supremacy in the past few years. The new generation of SD card support SDMI (Secure Digital Music Initiative) to better protect Intellectual Property. For other consumer devices such as digital cameras, MP3s, PDAs, and many other digital handheld devices, the SD card family has been a great companion!
SD card dimensions - 24mm x 32mm x 2.1mm

CF Series Memory Card
CF card (Compact Flash card) is a storage system for multimedia content developed using semiconductor technology. Featuring low pricing, rugged built, no driver installation required, flash storage medium, hot plug & play, low power consumption and can store data without battery supply,The new UDMA (Ultra Direct Memory Access) transfer interface enables the write speed of up to 50 MB/s(SP CF 600X),This makes it ideal for both amateur and professional photographers using high-megapixel DSLR (Digital Single-Lens Reflex) cameras by decreasing the time needed for saving pictures and expediting storage readiness for subsequent shots.
CF card dimensions - 36.4mm x 42.8mm x 3.3mm
